We are fire and water.
When we don’t touch,
We are separate
And we are safe.
Water is still, fire burns steadily.
–
But if we touch
When we touch
It’s a boiling ocean,
A room full of steam,
Enough force to create millions
Of chemical reactions
Rewriting our very DNA.
Jets of steam rise
Pulling the still air upward,
And we rise with it
It’s an intoxicating moment
Flying high
Full of energy,
Movement, and life
–
But come crashing down with me darling
And remember
We cannot touch.
For the fire
Evaporates the water.
The fire consumes.
We must remain
Separate and safe
We must not touch.
Or we may not make it out alive.
