For those who didn’t know, the first known recorded slave owner in North America was a Black Man.

His name was Anthony Johnson who was a former slave who earned his freedom and was given his own property by the colony.

He became a Tobacco farmer and was referred to as “The Black Patriarch” of the first community of Black Property owners of America. He was one of the most richest men in Virginia.

So this whole narrative that White people were the only ones who owned slaves in Colonial America is completely false.

Back then African tribes sold their own people into slavery and it wasn’t because they were black. Slaves were a symbol of power and wealth, any race of people can be made into slaves. Two popular instances of that being true was Ancient Rome and the Irish.

Slavery has no color of skin. Slavery has roots all around the world. Every race of people in Colonial and ancient times have had slavery.

White people owned white people.

Black people owned black people.

Asians owned Asians.

Arabs owned Arabs.

So stop with the narrative of evil Europeans when the rest of the fucking world is just as guilty when it comes to Slavery.

Slavery in the English colonies started in 1619 several decades before Johnson’s lawsuit.  The 1st recorded slave owner, was a white man name Hugh Gwyn and his slave for life was John Punch in 1640.  Slavery was officially added to the law in 1641 by Gov John Winthrop, 14 yrs before the Johnson case.

Even so, the bulk of his post stands true, and the overall message is true as well.  Slavery traces back to ancient Mesopotamia even.  The point that I believe he is making is that people should stop trying to simplify the issue by blaming it exclusively on white people.
