Its august of 2017 and the sherlock fandom still cant accept that they weren’t queerbaited and they did this to themselves

Last time i said this people were like “the fuck you mean” so im gonna actually go ahead and explain what “they did it to themselves” means here

The writers said Johnlock was not and would not be canon and the fandom didn’t get it, so they had Sherlock fall in love with a girl, but the fandom didn’t get it so they actually had John marry a girl and made a huge deal of him being in love with her but the fandom didn’t get it so they had Sherlock confess his love to Molly but the fandom STILL didn’t get it and then the series ended

And despite all of that, the fandom was still convinced that johnlock would happen

And when it didnt they screamed that they’d been queerbaited

But see, its not fucking queer baiting if you’re told from the beginning “these two are never going to be together because they’re straight” you fujoshi fucks

I’m not going to explain why “the fandom still didn’t get it” is incorrect and awful simplification of everything that happened because I don’t want to waste my time. I just hope you know that blaming the queerbaiting done by creators of a show on a fanbase of mostly lgbt teens is disgusting. Fans can’t “queerbait themselves”, that’s on the writers of a show to realize if fans see themselves in media, they shouldn’t be dropping hints without following through.

UPDATE: It’s now November of 2017 and the Sherlock fandom still can’t admit that they queerbaited themselves, also refuse to acknowledge Sherlock x Irene Adler was a canon thing in order to preserve their doomed ship.

There’s literally a scene of Watson screaming “I AM NOT GAY” and the fandom still didn’t get it

A fandom that desperately tries to queerbait themselves is sad and hilarious

I don’t understand why we couldn’t just get Sherlene.

Something that makes this even better or worse depending on your opinion is that one of the co-creators (who is a gay man, might I add) said he doesn’t mind potentially exploring Johnlock, but said that just isn’t the story they wanted to tell in their adaption.

Naturally people don’t listen :^)

“A fandom that desperately tries to queerbait themselves is sad and hilarious“

That’s literally everyone who screams “queerbaiting.” They’re so obsessed with ships that aren’t there that when the inevitable sinking happens they refuse to acknowledge it was their own fault and lash out at everyone else.

I can hardly believe I’m getting involved in a fandom discussion, but…

…a fanbase of mostly LGBT teens?

Are you really, positively sure about that? I mean I’m sure it seems to a lot of kids like the whole wide world is gay, but it is not.

Do you realize that non-straight people actually still only make up about 5-10% (or less) of the population of the Western world? That, in the majority of countries, the percentage of people, of all ages, who anonymously self identify as LGBT+ is generally somewhere between 1-5%? That the cities with the most dense populations of non-straight individuals in the world – by far – is still only 15%? That only about 13% of people overall admit to ever even having a single same-sex experience of any kind? Really, guys, the LGBTQ+ community is very much a small minority of the world.

AND, from just a quick online survey (conducted via twitter ffs) – which is, of course, obviously not the entirety but is a decent cross section of the show’s online fanbase, considering it was directed at the show’s online fans – only 21% of devoted Sherlock fans were 15-19 years old and less than 3% were 10-14, while just under half (~45%!) were over 30 years old. Interestingly, 91% were female, and many admitted attraction to Benedict Cumberbatch, indicating that those women are indeed straight, or at least bi.

So it would appear that the Sherlock fandom is not mostly LGBT teens.

Spending too much time in a place like this, or in any echo chamber where you can choose to exclude those voices you don’t want to hear, can severely skew your understanding of what people think and who people are.

Kids, there is a whooooooooole world outside of tumblr. Please, for your own sake, check it out.

I think there are a lot of fanbases with minority fetishists and slashers who hide behind “LGBT fans”.

>There’s literally a scene of Watson screaming “I AM NOT GAY” and the fandom still didn’t get it

Also, Moffat actually said Sherlock wasn’t gay, with evidence from the books. Specifically, he found women a “distraction”, but not men.
