Two people of the same gender: *are very close and emotionally intimate with each other but show no signs of a sexual or romantic relationship*
Some of y’all dumbasses: there’s literally no heterosexual explanation for this
Me: You do know that not every intimate relationship involves sex or romance, right? That people can be very close to each other without being sexually or romantically involved? And that claiming otherwise actively damages real non-sexual, non-romantic relationships by spreading the notion that people can’t be emotionally close without being sexually and romantically involved? You do realize sexual and romantic relationships aren’t the only kinds that are important to people, right?
“Those who cannot conceive Friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray the fact that they have never had a Friend.”

Oof
Frigging savage CS Lewis
Yeah, but I feel this message is even more important in straight fiction? I mean there are guys are who think a woman doing so much as talking to them means it’s a sign of romantic interest.
I made a post a long while back outlining a movie that focused on a friendship between a man and a woman instead of a romance and I got people telling me the idea was just a huge letdown and that if they don’t end up getting married what’s the point? There’s no closure unless they fall in love.
And that honestly horrified me. That so many people literally can’t conceive and man and a woman interacting with a non-romantic goal
Like I honestly felt betrayed by Danny Phantom because Butch initially said they weren’t going to be love interests, just friends (Done beautifully in Parental Bonding “I’m not his girlfriend, I’m his best friend.”) And then thrown out the window with Sam starting to crush and Danny and ending with them in a relationship in the finale.
Romance doesn’t have to be the endgame. And not every story needs a romance shoehorned in. Celebrate and normalize friendships, between people of any and every gender.
Thank someone for FINALLY SAYING THIS ugh I hate how in fiction best friends end up falling in love when that doesn’t always happend, good grief. Everyone who was alphaing my works insisted on the two protags falling in love because they couldn’t see them just being friends. rolls eyes Love is love, whether friends or romantically.
