Leap Day: Ladies Take Control (Punch, 1896)

PROSPECTS OF THE LEAP YEAR CLUB.
(”A ‘Leap Year Club’ has been formed by a number of young ladies.” –Daily Graphic)

[29 Feb. 1896, Punch]

Yes, ladies, that’s right: Leap Day is our day. Go to town, wearing chequered breeches, chasing mice, helping woefully incompetent men onto their horses, asking men to dance – and even to marry you (though don’t worry, I’m sure you can abandon them tomorrow) –, paying for tickets to the pictures, driving the carriage, and even… stopping charging livestock. Not so far off an ordinary day, then, eh?

And in fact… some more Leap Day ladies’ posters coming up… HERE!
