Here’s Proof That Tween Girl Halloween Costumes Are Way Too Sexed-Up [x]

yo, i NEVER got store-bought costumes as a kid (with the exception of a black cat jumpsuit and some ears). i always would scrape them together myself by making them or using clothes i already had, and my costumes always seemed totally on-par with my friends- that is, untill i turned about 10.

my friends started going as dorothy and hanna montana, wearing low cut croptops and ruffled skirts that would expose their whole backside if they bent over. of course, being a 10 year old who just wanted to fit in, i’d look at my homemade mummy costume and wonder why i wanted to be something so lame. besides, scary costumes were for boys, right??

there was one year that pretty much exactly resembled the halloween party from Mean Girls (me as a dead bride with full zombie makup and a long white dresss, and my friends as some “sexy animal” rendition), except for the fact that we were all 12

after that, i’d always beg my mom to let me get a sexy bunny costume from party city or be a witch with a super short skirt, just wanting to look as “cool and grown up” as the rest of my friends

years later, i’m SO FUCKING GLAD she never said yes. my friends and i would stay out late all alone and get lewd comments from men of all ages. halloween just isnt a safe time to be out in general, with loads of predators walking the streets.
