1 Corinthians 13, you’ve heard the scripture quoted many times, most likely at a family member or friends engagement or wedding. It’s the go-to scripture, whether people believe in Jesus or not, and I would almost go so far as to say that when you get married, you’ve thought about ways of incorporating this scripture into your wedding too… And that is fine, because 1 Corinthians 13 is certainly about love within relationships, but it is important to remember, that it is not solely about a ‘significant other’ kind of love — and if you’re reading it as that, you have completely missed the point of the message Paul was trying to convey. 1 Corinthians 13 is all inclusive, it describes the kind of love that God is; reflecting 1 John 4:8 ‘God is love’… Many people go throughout life battling with the constant query of the three words ‘God is love.’ You are a part of a practical and hands on generation, and it’s highly likely that you have spent at least a couple of hours trying to work out what that really looks like for you; but have you gone to His word to find what it tells you about His love and Himself? Have you ever replaced the word ‘love’ in 1 Corinthians with the word ‘God’ (as God is love) “God is patient and kind; God does not envy or boast; He is not arrogant or rude. He does not insist on His own way; He is not irritable or resentful; He does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. God bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. God never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 — If you are constantly focusing on your worldly relationships in reading this; you miss out on the incredible message God is telling you about Himself. Ephesians 1:5 tells us to imitate God in all we do. His word is rich regarding who He is, but also who we should be. God is working in you to make you more like Him.. In order to truly love like God, you must love everyone.. Are you known to others for being loving, welcoming, accepting, gracious, kind, patient, humble and truthful? Perhaps you’re just beginning your journey or you’ve been on it a while; regardless of your position, remember God is love — and you are called to be the same.
