OKay for some really weird reason Tumblr will not let me reblog from the thread about Mary. But I just wanted to add that the verse said, “until she gave birth to her Son”. That seems to leave room for sexual relations afterwards. Still, I agree with recoiloperated, I just felt like butting in tho. Partly because I find the concept of elevating Mary to a divine status on par with Jesus to be baffling, and the implication that virgins are holier than others and sex parts you from God. No offense.
That’s actually a translation limitation. When people say “I didn’t do X until Y” it implies you DID do X after Y happened. In the original Greek they use a word which still means the same thing however the implication doesn’t exist in that language. So no. No room for it. All this argument has is a vague implication which is mostly a translation problem. The Bible doesn’t tend to imply things like that. If Joseph and Mary had relations it would have stated it outright.
No one said Mary was as divine as Jesus and I don’t understand how anyone can read the Bible and come away not understanding that virginity is a virtue
Oh I definitely understand that virginity is precious and shouldn’t be looked down upon. Don’t get it twisted. I suppose it’s just that some discussions based on it tend to go into a “purity culture” sort of tangent where those who are no longer virgins are viewed as lesser, even when they are married to who they lose it to within the confines of marriage. It tends to get bothersome sometimes.
