You can’t be anti-feminism?? Please tell me why u are anti feminism because i just can’t comprehend how a female can be against it. Maybe you haven’t had the experiences many MANY other women have had but that doesn’t mean u should be against it…
Why I’m an Anti-Feminist
There are countless reasons why I am against feminism, but here are some of the main ones:
- Manspreading: What a silly thing to whine about, a man’s legs taking up space on a public form of transportation. Of course, they should not take up more than one seat when the vehicle is full and others need to sit down, but sitting how they want is not oppression, it’s not making fun of women, it’s just how they sit comfortably, like how women cross their legs.
- Cultural appropriation: I don’t see what’s wrong with liking other cultures and copying them. I don’t believe cultures are meant to be confined to the people who are involved in them. They have been shared and mixed throughout history, so it’s dumb to complain about that. Now, people who imitate to make fun of cultures, especially matters that are sacred to a particular culture, I have a problem with that.
- Sexist emojis: What an incredibly stupid thing to complain about. The epitome of first world problems. They’re EMOJIS. I have nothing more to say about that.
- Tampons/Pads being “free”: Tampons and pads are products which require labor to make them. That labor isn’t something that women are just “entitled to.” It is work that costs money. It’s kind of telling that it’s whining, anyway, when people want free tampons/pads over free food/water/shelter.
- Rape culture/Teaching men not to rape: In the first world there is no rape culture. Society does not encourage men to rape women. Men are taught that rape is wrong, and they know it is when they choose to commit that horrendous crime. Murderers know that it’s wrong to kill, but they do it anyway. Robbers know that it’s wrong to steal, but they do it anyway. And so on and so forth. Society does punish rapists. Society does teach men not to rape. But these things are going to continue to happen because criminals don’t care about obeying the law. Not saying we shouldn’t try to stop them. But “teaching men not to rape” isn’t going to do that. Also, I’m not a big fan of the hypocrisy when it comes to female rapists, which are sometimes ignored by feminists, or by the more radical ones: “when a female does it it’s not rape.” And they ignore male rape victims as well.
- Making false rape claims: An alarming amount of people on this site think that it’s okay to put a guy in jail based on a woman’s word that he raped her. I value the law over feelings. A person’s word should not just be taken for it when we’re dealing with crime.
- Cat calling being an equivalent of rape: Yes, as a woman I know that cat calling can be bothersome. It’s happened to me before. But by no means does that make it “oppression.”
- Guys giving girls compliments: What really makes me angry is when girls whine about guys genuinely giving nice compliments to them. That is not oppression. They are not wanting to rape you, they are just being KIND. How hard is that to understand??
- Disowning anyone who doesn’t agree with you on everything: For example, lot of feminists claim you can’t be a feminist if you’re pro-life. Now, I’m not going to get into abortion politics, but it shouldn’t matter what your stance on it is, or whether you’re a conservative or a liberal or independent, or religious or not, you can still label yourself as a feminist.
- Going along with the last point: Feminists often label anti-feminist women as embarrassing or woman-hating. It’s happened to me loads of times and I’ve seen it happen to others. Feminists sometimes don’t want to understand why women are anti-feminist, they just assume that those women are doing it for the men instead of realizing that women have their own opinions. Which is why I thank you for asking me, instead of just making assumptions and leaving it at that.
- Wage Gap: The gender pay gap isn’t due to sexism. There are other factors that constitute it, such as women willfully going into lower paying jobs, with more men generally looking for higher paying jobs. Claiming that it’s sexism is beating a dead horse when the wage gap has been debunked countless times. (If you want sources for that, I’m more than happy to provide.)
- Patriarchy: Women in the first world do not live under a patriarchy. They can have higher positions in jobs. They have freedom of opportunity. It’s up to them to get where they want to be, not anyone else’s responsibility. It’s called hard work and initiative. It’s not about facing sexism in the system.
- Diversity: I’m not against having diversity in any form. But telling people to put it in their artwork is severely limiting on creativity. It’s not essential to art. And artists have the freedom to make whatever they want. They don’t have to pander to someone’s political agenda. And for example, voting for people to get in office based on their race or gender to get “diversity” is sexism. People need to be voted in based on their ability to perform the tasks set before them, not based on physical attributes out of their control.
- Putting down women who live different lifestyles: I see a lot of bashing of women who choose to be housewives, who choose to have kids instead of pursuing a career. As someone who wants this for my future, I can safely say that it really annoys me when someone tells me that this is a form of oppression and that I won’t be living life to the fullest.
- Ignoring men’s issues: A group that claims to be geared towards “equality” should be focusing on both genders, but there are not that many feminists who do this. And some claim that men have it alright already, which is certainly false, while also saying that misandry isn’t real, while spreading hatred of them on this site. Which utterly disgusts me and this alone would turn me against feminism.
- Sexualization Contradictions: I don’t like when feminists preach about how women should be able to wear whatever they want and that the female body isn’t inherently sexual (the human body inherently is, in fact, but that’s not the point), and then they go to say that “sexy” Halloween costumes aren’t okay, or that women in video games are not allowed to be designed the way they are – that they’re being oversexualized by men in the gaming industry (looking at you, Anita Sarkeesian). I despise hypocrisy.
- “Free the Nipple”: Feminists are correct in stating that the breasts are not genitalia, but that doesn’t mean they don’t elicit sexual arousal. I don’t know, call me old-fashioned, but I just wouldn’t feel comfortable walking around with my shirt off and seeing other women that way. I also think it’s dumb that they advocate for a woman’s ability to breastfeed in public while also saying that having children is oppressive and freedom-limiting.
- On Racism: Feminists often say that “you can’t be racist to white people due to whatever reasons, like power+prejudice = racism or whatever. Which is really dumb. And then they go and hide behind the definition of feminism while blatantly ignoring the definition of racism, which allows for anyone being racist to anyone regardless of skin color.
- Censorship: As someone who strongly believes in freedom of speech/expression, I’m highly against censoring something just because it’s “offensive.” There are always going to be people who say stupid things, and I don’t agree with those kind of things, but I will defend to the death their right to voice them. Lately I’m seeing a lot of feminists advocate for censorship of things they don’t like. And to me, that’s just being childish.
- Women in the first world are not oppressed: We have our freedoms. We can vote, we can get jobs, we can drive, we can dress how we wish. We can voice our opinions, we can practice whatever religion we want. WE ARE NOT oppressed. So I don’t like hearing all the whining about the issue.
- Fat acceptance: I’m not against self-confidence in one’s physical appearance, but what I am against is pretending that being severely overweight/obese is healthy. I’m not going to shame someone for what they look like or bully them into exercising, of course. But I’m always going to support living a healthy lifestyle, because I believe it allows one to be happier and it prolongs their life. I know for me personally, living healthier – eating right and exercising regularly, has really helped me stay positive.
- Privilege: The main way a person is privileged is by having a lot of money. Pretending that white people have all this privilege over other races just because of their skin is dumb, or that men have a ton of privilege over women, or that straights have a ton of privilege over LGBT, etc. Now, granted, there ARE people that favor whites over other races; there is definitely still racism against other races that needs to be stopped, and sexism in certain places. I’m not denying that. But in the first world ANYONE can be poor, regardless of race, sexuality, gender, etc. Defining a person by how much “privilege” they have based on features they can’t control about themselves is dumb.
- Gender roles/Gender eradication: I don’t see gender roles as a bad thing or as oppressive. They can and are beneficial to society, in my honest opinion. Nobody’s FORCING women to follow gender roles, anyway. Maybe some people expect it, but it’s not a law. You have the freedom to do what you wish. And gender can’t just be destroyed. It is scientific, biological fact that we have men, and we have women, and they are not exactly the same. Sexual dimorphism is something that feminists tend to ignore a lot. Now, I’m not saying men and women are COMPLETELY different, because there are definitely similarities. But pretending they’re exactly the same aside from genitalia is very ignorant.
- Political Lesbianism: Oh, boy. I really despise this one. Claiming that you are attracted to women just because some guy dumped you in high school is just plain pathetic. You can’t change your sexuality. And saying that you can makes light of the challenges that LGBT people face for genuinely being attracted to the people that they are.
- “Black Lives Matter”: I agree that they do, but I also agree that all lives matter. If you believe both, then BLM is redundant. Also, I don’t agree with what the movement does in order to achieve their goals. Additionally, there is too much putting down of white people for my taste (like blaming them for the actions of their ancestors, for example).
- Delusions that men don’t like female gamers/metalheads/comic book fans: As a female metalhead, I have met PLENTY of guys who love seeing women who have their interests. And I’m sure that my male followers could attest that it does not bother them when a woman is a gamer, metalhead, comic book fan, into sports, etc. or likes anything else that is commonly liked by dudes. Sure, there are the bad apples (with regard to both genders) but for the most part I don’t think that it bothers people when others share their interest. In fact, a lot of people freak out and get excited. So I don’t believe that this is an issue at all.
Bottom line: Women are not oppressed in the first world countries and don’t need to feel like they are. Now, granted, I haven’t said anything about third world countries, where women face death for disobeying orders. And that’s largely why I’m anti-feminist, in fact. Because I don’t see the need to complain about all these trivial matters while women are facing real oppression in other places.
Sorry this post ended up being so long. I hope that you understand a bit more as to why I maintain the position on feminism that I do.
