cryptid-wendigo:

Among the many strange creatures that lumberjacks told tales of came the Milamo. This crane-like bird was known for eating large snakes and giant earthworms.

One story in particular told of a Milamo that had a tough time catching a large worm. It bit onto the end of the worm as it tried to escape down a hole. When the bird pulled on it, the worm stretched like an elastic band and then the Milamo stretched it too far and the worm flung out of the hole like an arrow from a bow. The worm hit the Milamo in the eye and the bird lost its meal when recovering from the shock of being hit.
