I’m not sure which is dumber – the fact that someone thought this would be a funny gag or that people are actually fearful for their lives.
I used to make these as a kid along with other stupid experiments with anti-freeze, tinfoil, and drano. It’s not a fast chemical reaction and it won’t kill you as described. At worst you could get the chemicals shot in your eye if you’re stupid enough stand there watching it expand.
Despite popular belief, and I flunked chemistry in high school so take this with a grain of salt, but I’m pretty sure the reaction does not produce actual chlorine gas like used in WWI. So, I’m fairly confident your lungs are not going to melt from it either.
