Not sure why people bring up “Did you know the Forbidden Fruit mentioned in Genesis actually wasn’t an apple? It could have actually been a fig or a pear!” like this is some kind of history-changing revelation that will shake the very foundations of Abrahamic religion.

My guy, it doesn’t matter if it was a squash, the fact is Adam and Eve had one job and they failed and so now we all gotta suffer for it.

Maybe you’re talking about another context, but I just mention it as an interesting factoid, not as a history-changing revelation.  Apparently in some cultures it’s traditionally thought of as a pomegranate.  I kind of like that idea from a poetic standpoint because pomegranates tend to have a bitter aftertaste.

I hear it’s traditionally depicted as an apple because of wordplay, where the Latin word for apple is a homophone for “evil.” So basically, it’s an apple because Latin scholars couldn’t resist passing up a pun.
