Cinquedea Dagger
- Dated: circa 1510
- Culture: Italian
- Medium: steel, iron, ivory, gold
- Measurements: overall length 61.5cm
This cinquedea has an iron hilt, domed iron pommel-cap, flat downwards and curved quillons, richly adorned with floral etched decorations. It features some gold plating and an ivory grip-scales fasten with 3 rivets adorned in rosette-like engraved pattern.
The double-edged blade is divided into 3 fullered panels: three fullers at the base, two in the middle, and one fuller at the point, with elegantly shaped piercing of, probably, a later period.
The middle panel is richly adorned in foliage, while the uppermost panel of three fullers features allegorical scenes etched and gilded figures: Artemis, in attendance of Nymphs and a deer transformed Aktaion, (verso) and the three Graces.
