I think I understand Chepe better now. He lost his first two kids because of his own bad actions, and he wants to do better with Briana, but he’s afraid that he’ll lose her anyway because of her illness. He must feel so helpless all the time, because he can’t protect the one thing he cares about. So, when Bruno says, “Briana asked me for a vison,” of course he lashes out. He can’t protect Briana from her illness but he can protect her from Bruno’s “bad luck.” It’s tragic, but it makes sense.
