I’ve read that male bees/wasps can’t sting because the stinger is a modified ovipositor. I feel like this might be true? Maybe? Along the same lines, I’ve read that ichneumon wasps can’t sting, but I’ve also read they can sting. Do you know anything aboht these kinds of wasps? If it helps I think I mostly see Orgichneumon sp. I know stinging questions can be a risky subject but I don’t mind if my friends can sting one way or another! I’m just curious.
Its true! Drones (males) don’t sting because the stinger is a modified ovipositor. Ichneumon wasps are stingless because they’re
parasitoids and they instead have these long ovipositors that are used for laying eggs in their hosts.
They’re a very cool family of stingless wasps.
