J.S. Bach & King Frederick II of Prussia
Exploring a couple of character designs for an animated short I’ve wanted to make for a few years. The story is based on a real-life interaction between Bach & Frederick the Great.
The baroque period tends to be depicted in this sepia-tinted, ornate way so I liked the idea of making it really bright and cartoony and weird. It’s partly based on the Mozart animations I made a while ago but since this is a personal project I wanted to see if I could push the designs a bit further.
I realised as i was drawing it that the cape / giant hands / crown are shamelessly nicked from Double King, which is quite possibly the best thing made by a human this year.
The “plot” of the animation itself is still up in the air but I want it to basically be a weird little Sesame-Street-esque educational cartoon about how Fugues work!
