It would make a lot more sense if SEPTember, OCTober, NOVember, and DECember were the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th months of the year.

And to be perfectly accurate, Caesar did not “add” the months of August and July like many people in the notes are claiming, the months named after the Caesars merely changed the names of existing months.

Romans used to have a 10 month calendar that didn’t count Winter. January and February were the months that were added, and the original names of July (Quintilis) and August (Sextilis) were names that properly denoted their fifth and sixth place in the 10 month calendar (which started in March).
