can anybody explain me if there are any reasons for cheerleading to exist besides sexualisation of women and girls?
Cheerleading takes a lot of skill. I think of it as a form of dance so it’s just entertainment like anything else. There are also a lot of male cheerleaders. But there is a solid argument to be made on both sides.
Also it’s basic function is to ‘cheer lead’, as in to get the crowd chanting and clapping to support the team and encourage them to try harder so they’re more likely to win

I think it’s one thing for adult women to wear those kinds of clothes. A lot of dancers wear those types of outfits. That being said, it always made me feel weird that so many highschool cheerleaders dressed this way too. But then the argument can be made that cheerleaders need to be able to be as mobile as possible, the same reason why gymnasts outfits look like this
When it comes to younger girls espeically though, I feel like cheerleading outfits should be things like this
You also made a solid point about the weight of cheerleaders because in professional, high level cheerleading, it’s all about your appearance and your image to a very intense degree. It’s on a similar level to modeling. It can be pretty damaging for girls.
Cheer leading on it’s own is meant to pump up the crowd and get them excited for the game. Many of them are very skilled athletes and amazing at what they do. I think it would be really disengeneous to try and say that cheerleading isnt a sport.
But you have a point that you don’t need to do it in a bikini.

People are gonna hate me for this… just know this is in my opinion only.
Yeah, a lot of cheer outfits are revealing where, IMO only, shouldn’t be. A lot of people here are gonna argue that it’s used for flexibility but I have two arguments.
As someone who also did martial arts, I was able to do splits mid-air with my martial arts pants. If you look them up, you’ll see that they are super baggy attire, but gave me enough room to roundhouse my sparring partner in the face booyah 2 points move effectively but not all that flattering.
Also looking up a clip of both the female and male from GMA that I found, it’s easy to see that the dude is able to not only do the same moves but keep up with his female counterpart while wearing less revealing clothing.
Now if the cheerleaders like wearing that stuff, makes them feel good and whatever, cool, I don’t like it personally, but a. I’m not gonna do it, and b. it doesn’t affect me so more power to them.
But overall, more practical yet stylish outfits should have more options if not already, which I have a hard time thinking that’s not already in place.
Again, just my opinion. Not spitting out this like I think I know better. A cheerleader would be preferred when correcting me/ straightening out the record.
