My beautiful grandmother will soon turn 89 years old. These pictures themselves are about 70 years apart. She was born at home on April 26, 1927. My great grandfather took a horse and buggy to get the doctor who delivered her. She is the youngest of 6 children. When her older brother came home from school that evening after she was born he wanted to name her Virgie after his favorite teacher and my great grandmother said “ok” and I’ll name her Mae. So she was named Virgie Mae. She married her high school sweetheart and had a son and a daughter (my mother).
She is one of my life’s greatest blessings. She is not just my grandmother but my second mother. I was at her house just as much as I was home. She raised me along with my parents. Her influence on my life is priceless. If everyone had someone like her in their life growing up the world would be a different place. Sadly, few are as fortunate as me.
