Recently, I saw someone hounding someone else who simply said ‘God bless!’ on an article. (A harmless, well-intentioned thing) This guy was ranting, insulting her, and telling her that religion is the cause of most wars–the primary basis for his insults. He was so disgusting, and she was so blown away that I stepped in.

That is a lie, or blatant ignorance at best.

An interesting source of truth on the matter is Philip and Axelrod’s three-volume Encyclopedia of Wars, which chronicles some 1,763 wars that have been waged over the course of human history. Of those wars, the authors categorize 123 as being religious in nature, which is an astonishingly low 6.98% of all wars. 

Religion is not the primary cause of war; pure human greed is.
