So in Punderworld the gods are a kind of ‘cosmic energy’ given personification and deal with aspects of nature, life, and death, and the cosmos. Do I got the gist of it down there? But what about the gods that have less abstract domains? Such as Dionysus being the god of wine? Or Hermes and Messenger?I’m not sure if my question is getting across the way I want it to.
In Punderworld Life and Death are just classifications that signify Gods in their respective domains. Life is associated with the aspect of creation, while death is associated with the aspect of Destruction.
As a banal example Hades is a death God in my story because he thinks his powers are only destructive (as he can disintegrate things) so he uses it sparingly, While Persephone is considered a Life goddess because she helps plant growth. (which is an interesting concept that will be demolished through the story ;P)
Because to be fair.. all the gods in mythology have their dual natures. That is how they are balanced.
In that same way that Apollo is the god of healing, education, music but is also the god that can bring plague and death by his arrows.
Or Dionysus who is the god of dance and theater and wine, promoting a way to unwind your troubles, but also a god of taking things too far so to speak resulting in fatal casualties. So these classifications are the ones that I put by the “majority of their powers”
The older generations of Gods, such as Primordials in my story had a much wider and more general range of their powers. Such as Gaia being the earth itself, and ouranos being the sky, Nyx night etc…providing basic needs for survival.
Then the next generation built more on that, and the generation after divided as well, making each of the generation more focused in their specific aspects and the mortal need based on the worship they received which made them look and feel more and more human themselves.Which is why you have a difference in my story between how I depict older primordial gods and some titans only in their Primordial forms, while Zeus and onward have both mortal forms and Primordial forms while some offsprings are only presented with mortal form and nothing else.
They change with the times and need.
I am not sure if this was the answer you were looking for but more on that will be explored through the story so hopefully it will make more sense there XD
