I grew up thinking eminem was my uncle for no valid reason and when I realized he wasn’t I was so shocked
I thought every single person in my family had the middle name Erik, everyone, regardless of gender. The fact that my middle name is NOT Erik did not manage to clue me in to the fact that I might be wrong
I used to think football players just had oddly shaped heads and didn’t realize they were helmets. I think I thought they were different species or something.
When I was in kindergarten it was hard for me to socialize and have friends and because my sister’s weren’t born yet, I was a very lonely child for a while. So to compensate I used to get my box of hair accessories out, set each and every one of these mother fuckers out on a table end to end:
And tell my mom they were my friends. I would talk to them and play with them as if they were Barbie dolls. I also was learning numbers in school and I remember certain numbers had personalities and some had grudges against each other like the number 6 felt left out and was bullied by 9 etc.
When I was in kindergarten I also didn’t have a lot of friends and I gave both of my hands personalities and made them talk to each other 😂
OMG same here! Except, for some reason, I based their gender on the placement of one of my elementary schools’ bathrooms. The girl was right and the boy was left. And I’m sad to say that I had an extreme bias towards the “girl” hand. No matter what it did, or what happened to it, I always twisted it in a way that it could benefit. Eventually this dichotomy reached the entire sides of my body. I’d be lying if I said a part of my mind didn’t still kept this up today.
Now for another story! I remember one day I emptied all my change from my piggy bank to count before I went to school. I didn’t have the time to out it all back, so I hid it under my pillow. When I came back it was all gone. And it wasn’t a couple of cents either, it was a crapton of spare change I collected! I was convinced by Opposite Day logic, that the Tooth Fairy stole all my money. And the wench didn’t even bother to leave any teeth behind. >:( I still hold a grudge against her to this day.
On the subject of “purdy”. I noticed a lot of us put vowels in front of “r” and some other consonants at times for a smoother flow. Here in Louisiana, we favor vowels; and through some long vowel trickery, pronounce them so that it sounds like we’re saying consonants when we really ain’.
Fire= “fah”
Food = “foo”
Ya’ll = the same but sometimes just “yah”
This is the most obvious in words with two “t’s”.
Putting = “pu’ in”
Trotting = “tro’ in”
But other times we really don’t give a shive.
Probably = prolly
Tennis shoes = “ti/enny shoos”
Actually = “ackshly”
Typically = “tip-uh-gly” or “tip-ah-gly”
We’re fickle with “r” and use “ff” to replace “th” at times.
Orange = “ernge”
Oil = “erl” though I usually pronounce it “ahl or all”
Fridge = “ferge”
Bathroom = “baffroom”
And you can’t forget “finna”! But me and my family typically say “funna”.
Anywho! That’s all for now. I’ve been studying Southern accents, especially my own, to see what makes them tic. I wonder what a conlang based off of one would be like? 🤔 I’ve been messing around with the idea myself.
The woman I’ll give a pass to. Pippa is a diminutive of Philippa which is a feminine version of Philip, which means “Friend of horses”. Heck, even Middleton isn’t all that bad (literally being “middle town”.
Bumbershoot apparently has something to do with “umbrella”, but whether it’s British or American, I’m not sure.
BUT FREAKING “TIDDLYHAM” MAN?!
Bonus!
While I couldn’t find “La” Drea, Drea itself means “courageous” or “manly, virile” in Greek.
Tyrell meanwhile, has many interpretations from various languages, including:
“Stubborn”, or “Puller” – English, French
“Tyr, the Scandinavian God” which is if it’s derived from Thorald – Old Norse

Remember this the next time you want to complain about GMO’s, we may not have done it in a lab but they still are that.
Bananas looked like lemons wtf
Isn’t this more of a combination of selective breeding and GMOs? Not just GMOs?
Yes. But people talk about how GMO’s are “unnatural”, yet for centuries humanity has been exploiting mutations in animals and plants to produce food for themselves.
GMO’s are simply the process of inducing these mutations reliably.
People hear “Lettuce being modified with scorpion DNA” and think that we’re now eating scorpions. But, in reality, they’re taking a tiny bit of scorpion DNA and splicing it into the plant. Why? So the plant will produce poison that is not harmful to humans but will deter insects, reducing the use of pesticide, which CAN be harmful to humans and the environment.
GMOs are producing rice that can survive flooding, which makes rice more reliable yields and will prevent food shortages in poor nations that rely on said crops for staple food.
GMOs are also creating spider-goat hybrids. Why? So we can splice web production into the goat’s udders. We’ll be able to spin huge quantities of spider silk, enough to reliably create spider silk cables and ropes, which have more tensile strength than steel.
I for one am glad I live in a time where watermelons aren’t giant tomato abominations
Are we gonna ignore the whole spider goat thing or what
I think when people speak of GMOs, they’re speaking more about stuff along the lines of adding fish genes in tomatoes. Or something like that. Less selective breeding, and more like playing God. No I don’t think selective breeding is playing God, it’s just being smart, i.e. don’t breed two goats if one has a family history of invreeding. Scientifically merging two things from two different kingdoms, IS.
