Catwalk (2018)
I would love to pet this kitty.
This kind of embodies the problem with show standards of a ‘fine cat’ being one we deformed to the point of breathing problems for ‘the aesthetic ’.
Like im going to watch this anyway but man I feel so bad for that cat
As a veterinarian, I have this to say:
I, also, have goosebumps.
In all my years of vetting, this is one of the most deformed cat skulls I have had to look at, and I sincerely fear for the future of this breed.
This cat’s nose is sitting behind the prominence of its eyes. The nostrils are missing, presumed dead. That flat facial structure is caused by a severe underbite, and the face is flat, look at it in profile. What are those ears even doing? This is not a happy cat.
And like some sort of dystopian horror, this cat is paraded as an ideal.
No, please for the love of cats, for the love of dogs, for the love of animals we share our lives with, we have to stop doing this. We have to stop pretending this is acceptable.
Look at these poor creatures without fur.

Look at those eyes! I’m forever afraid they’re going to pop out of the head, not that the cat is very active because its nostrils are so restricted that it really can’t afford to be!
And the skull without flesh isn’t any better.

We are breeding intents into the skull, which are not even always symmetrical. The bones don’t always fuse. We have pushed the nose up and and backwards to sit between the eyes instead of in front of it.
It’s amazing what we’ve been able to do with selective breeding. We’ve really pushed these animals to the limit, but it’s time to step back from that edge.
This should never have happened.
We should never have bred them to be this extreme, for our amusement.
So I have goosebumps, but it’s because this is a horror scene.
fuck..
