Watch: SNL destroys the homophobia behind “religious freedom” bills.
Not only is this a brilliant takedown of the religious freedom bills, this is brilliant satire of the whole Evangelical Christian movie industry.
WHY WOULD YOU PURPOSELY GO TO A CHRISTIAN BAKERY IF YOU ARE GAY I am bisexual and if I married a woman I would go to a normal bakery, instead of taking time out of my life to find a christian one just to make them uncomfortable. I swear this shit about cakes is solely about pissing off christians and not about equality at all. You know damn well gays wouldn’t pull this shit at a Muslim bakery, and that Muslims wouldn’t get called homophobic when they say no. Use the same standards on Christians.
Lesbian leaning bi girl here, wanting to put that out before I get hate.
Anyways can we analyze this for a second? Who thought this skit was a good idea they legit show in the first few gifs IT’S A SETUP FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF MAKING HER LOOK BAD. Look at the first man, He’s alone. The other man isn’t in frame he’s off to the left. If you watch the actual video the first seemingly enters alone even. Implying the second man entered prior. They even have the bell chimes of the door opening signalling him entering. So there was no prior interaction of the gay men to her.
Then he asks for a wedding cake. She obviously doesn’t know this man and reacts as she would with any customer. He waits until she asks about the bride to call his partner over. They waited for HER to inquire before interacting. Clearly for the sole purpose of putting her off.
Then look at what he says even. “Now make the cake.” If this was ANYONE else being a prat to a working class person. This site would be in an uproar about rude ass customers. They walked into her bakery for the sole reason of forcing her to provide them with baked goods. Easily implying they sought out a religiously owned bakery.
How’s this ANY different from a scammer trying to get money out of a grocery store by pouring vegetable oil on the floor? They want a pay out because they are gay. The entire clip revolves around setting her up to look bad.
@redbloodedamerica, anything else to add? Or did these folks sum it up fine?
Plus, since when is a wedding cake a “basic good”? Nobody needs a wedding cake. It’s not even a prerequisite for getting married. It’s a Western wedding tradition. Totally optional. Which is why it seems a little silly that people who’ve decided to kick much longer-standing and much more important traditions out the door (such as marriage being between one man and one woman) would be so concerned about following traditions regarding cakes.
That’s not even considering the fact that there are a LOT of bakeries that would have absolutely no problem baking this cake. Most of them, in fact. Because it’s bad business to turn away customers, which means a business owner would only do so for very good reasons such as following their conscience.
Freaking all of this^. Like @ima-fuckingt4ble pointed out, unless you want to go and try this shit at a Muslim bakery, step off and stop pretending it’s about anything other than bullying private Christian business owners for not believing the way that you want them to. I wouldn’t make an atheist paint me an icon. I wouldn’t demand that a Muslim restaurant serve me bacon. Nothing about a wedding cake is a basic human right.
