Ghost Shark Caught On Camera

Chimeras (Ghost Sharks) are deep sea sharks that live a mile and a half under the surface. This footage was taken six years ago but just now released to the public. Before being filmed the Ghost Shark was a cryptid, rarely ever seen by humans. A group of geologists who weren’t even looking for the shark were surprised to see it in the waters between California and Hawaii as it was always seen near the coasts of Australia. Unlike other sharks who have rows of teeth, the Ghost Shark has mineral plates built for crushing rather than tearing. For more information about the shark, watch the above video provided by National Geographic’s YouTube Channel.

It’s always encouraging to see an animal species become discovered as it gives credibility and hope to the science of cryptozoology. If it’s the ghost shark today, what will it be tomorrow?
