Old Sketches and Fears
Heyyyyy been a while since I uploaded here… ‘:). Well, my Mac is fixed so I should be able to upload more with less hassle! HURRAY.
Anywho…I thought I’d upload some characters of mine that are long overdue for public release. I feel bad that I never gave them a chance because of how scared I was. But now to kick hindering phobias goodbye! One or two of them may have be buried somewhere in my gallery, but many, MANY others are not.
Time to fix that.
I always did love the 1920/30s. Particularly the cartoons. They were, and are, a huge inspiration for me. Popeye being number one followed by early Betty Boop cartoons. My mom bought me a bunch of DVDs with these two, as well as many other vintage cartoons, on them to watch. And I would just watch them on repeat for DAYS. So when I saw the character Peacock from Skullgirls,
I just had to make my own again. The influence is probably very obvious…
I remember thinking how cool it would be if there was a game that was also handrawn and centered around the same era, but with rubberhose cartoons like her.
And just what happened to be announced a short while later…
This was a golden age! An era of resurgence. A refreshing reintroduction a previous golden age…
And I blew it.
I was so nervous about the internet, the mess that happened on it, and being accused of being unoriginal. So much so, that I neglected my own characters seeing the light of day.
On the plus side, I’m much better at art than I was 8+ years ago, and I’m wiser on how to go about things. And despite my feelings, it’s never truly too late.
These aren’t even all the sketches. I have more even older than this, but I gotta dig ’em out.
